The paper introduces SnapKV, a method designed to efficiently reduce the size of Key-Value (KV) caches in Large Language Models (LLMs) without needing fine-tuning, thereby improving performance and efficiency in processing long input sequences. SnapKV operates by analyzing patterns of attention in model heads using an observation window, enabling it to compress the KV cache by clustering significant key positions, which significantly enhances computational and memory efficiency. Through rigorous testing across 16 datasets, SnapKV demonstrated a substantial improvement in processing speed and memory usage, supporting extensive context lengths on limited hardware while maintaining high accuracy, making it a valuable tool for LLM applications that manage lengthy inputs.
